Tribute to Immigrant Poets
Yakov Azriel was born in New York and came to live in Israel after finishing his BA in English literature in Brooklyn College. After making aliyah, he studied at Mercaz HaRav Kook, and later completed an MA and a PHD in Hasidic literature; he presently teaches in the Department of English at Herzog College, Israel.
He has published five full-length books of poetry, and over 500 of his poems have been published in journals and magazines in the United States, the United Kingdom and Israel, and the Internet. His poems have won twenty-one prizes in international poetry competitions, including two fellowships from the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture.
