They’re off to Florida
Israel, and the Bahamas
And I can’t even get away.
Freezing at home in my pajamas
I read, I escape,
I live in other cultures, in other continents.
But it’s time for a change from abstinence.
I’m due to try another way
To experience a restorative vacay.
It’s not cheap, the credit card will get some stretch
As I cruise on the Amazon and sail the E-bay.
Tropical cloths for the tabletop
and plush curtains I view.
It’s time for aqua and seafoam cushions,
Really, it’s true!
The living room must be a place to shed stress
When outside the cold and the snow have made a mess.
Slush, snow and black ice I want to keep at bay
As I’ll rest in my newly redone nest for a stay.
New décor, it will give a new feel to my space.
No need for a professional, I’ll do it at my own pace.
I fill up my cart with sights, sounds, and beachy feels.
I don’t, however, make it to my destination.
A newly redone home exists only in my imagination
And in the cart of selected purchases.
I restrain myself and applaud my virtuousness.
Hooray for sanity! Hooray for thrift!
Take heart, my self, no need to be miffed.
Winter comfort and cossetting will be yours in a jiffy,
Hie thee to a nearby chocolate chip cookie.
Bless the One Above for the morsels so Divine.
I count my blessings yet another time.
It’s my life and it’s my way
To staycation at a caloric destination.
