A Wild and Awesome End, by Zisi Berkowitz
I ’m circling the park
Getting my exercise
When I notice a to-do
To my surprise.
I slow to a trot
And see a jamboree
In the branches
of a Sweetgum tree.
We squint and crane
stare and gawk
And get a glimpse
Of a roosting red-tailed hawk.
We trade pleasantries,
smile, and slow the pace,
And then I’m back to the grind
continuing the race.
But as I run the miles
I know that around the bend
Awaits a wild and awesome end.
